Diversity

Diversity.  That word has been tossing around my head more and more these days.  The third definition in my android's app, "Dictionary," says diversity is "the inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, socioeconomic stratum, sexual orientation, etc."

With the upcoming presidential election and the seemingly resurgence of white supremacist groups stoked by Trump and his followers, I am asking myself 'what's up with that?'

How to Celebrate your Birthday 2,586 Miles Apart

My twin and I live 2,586 miles apart, which can be challenging when we want to celebrate our birthday together... So, you may wonder, how does one accomplish this feat?  Well, I will let you in on our not so secret, secret... SKYPE!  Yes, one of the wonders of modern technology that I actually bought into.  The beauty of 'skype' is that it is free, and when equipped with a camcorder on your computer, one can actually communicate with another "Skypie" virtually.

Inspired by a Book

I am currently reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery, and it is “a jewel of a book” as my mother-in-law emphatically put it. Originally written in French, L'Élégance du hérisson, was superbly translated into English by Novelist Alison Anderson.  The book is about deception, perception, words and beauty: the pretenses we put up as a defense mechanism, how we choose to see what we want to see in order to protect our beliefs, the sublime meaning of words and the beauty found in simple things.

Afternoon Delight

In case you don't know, I have a love affair with dessert.  So my recent introduction to a new one called Panna Cotta is just making me giddy bringing back memories of when I was 7 or 8.  My taste buds had not yet bloomed and my mother, in her infinite quest to expand our palate, made a homemade cheesecake that marred me for years.  I hated it so much I actually felt sick whenever I smelled or thought of that thing.  As a result you could not get me near a cheesecake.

Ode to Maturity

There's something about aging that I love.  Yeah, there's a lot of hype about youth and let's face it, most societies are obsessed with staying young; constantly searching for the eternal fountain of youth.

House Delivery

Last night I had a personal house delivery from Chez CurlyChez Curly is the best restaurant in town and is normally hosted at Chez Calamari's the best atmospheric guru in town.

I am so lucky to have great friends and exes in my life.  Needless to say, I was the only women present and aside from a few snide remarks, I was treated like a Queen! So I was attended to by all my husbands; Curly, Calamari, Chaz, my ex, who's babysitting me as I learn to gimp through life as I recuperate from a foot operation.
